What this notice means
Amazon charges an inbound defect fee when a shipment is misrouted to a different fulfillment center than planned, or deleted, abandoned or incomplete: for example arriving long after it was created, or with quantities far from the plan. Separately, it records inbound problems such as missing labels or prep.
In the US you can ask Amazon to investigate an inbound defect fee within 90 days of the problem notification, and dispute an inbound problem within 30 days. A shipment that was on its way with a delivery appointment, or already delivered or receiving, when its deadline passed is not abandoned; the dispute shows that.
Wording you may see
- “Your shipment has been charged an inbound defect fee…”
- “The shipment was deleted, abandoned or incomplete…”
- “We found a problem with your inbound shipment…”
What Amazon requires
From Amazon's Seller Central help pages, re-read daily. Our evidence check applies each of these to your files.
For the case as a whole
Disputed within 90 days of the shipment problem notification.Applies in: US
“within 90 days of the shipment problem notification” · Amazon's help page
Disputed within 30 days of the problem notification.
“You will have up to 30 days to submit a problem dispute” · Amazon's help page
Why these get rejected
- Disputed after the 90-day or 30-day window.
- Disputed before the shipment was received; sellers report later disputes then tend to fail too.
- No delivery records or photos showing the labels, prep or contents were right.
- Claiming a delay was not abandonment without showing the shipment was in transit or delivered on its deadline.

Questions
How long do I have to dispute?
In the US, 90 days from the shipment problem notification to request an investigation of an inbound defect fee, and 30 days to dispute an inbound problem.
Is a late shipment the same as an abandoned one?
No. A shipment in transit with a delivery appointment, or delivered, checked in or receiving by its deadline, stays open. Amazon also considers events outside your control.
How much can my plan quantities change?
Up to 5% or 6 units per SKU, whichever is greater. Larger changes make the shipment non-compliant.
What does a dispute cost?
$9 per case, after the free diagnosis and evidence check.
